Position summary
The Editorial Assistant for the
Journal of Research on Christian Education (
JRCE) works with the Editor-in-Chief, Book Review Editor(s), and production staff in the Taylor & Francis offices to ensure the regular release of high-quality
JRCE issues. The Editorial Assistant position is an office position with both administrative and editorial responsibilities. The successful applicant will work with the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) to establish regular work and task patterns for recurring journal production processes.
Qualifications summary
Hold a bachelor's degree, in-depth knowledge of publication processes, expertise in working in online environments, high-level editing skills, excellent language use skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills to keep the journal office running smoothly, and expertise in standard office productivity software packages.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
The Editorial Assistant for the
Journal of Research on Christian Education (
JRCE) works with the Editor-in-Chief, Book Review Editor(s), and production staff in the Taylor & Francis offices to ensure the regular release of high-quality
JRCE issues. The Editorial Assistant position is an office position with both administrative and editorial responsibilities. The successful applicant will work with the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) to establish regular work and task patterns for recurring journal production processes. These processes include, but are not limited to
- managing the peer review process via the ScholarOne Manuscripts interface,
- tracking issue production via the Central Article Tracking System (CATS) interface,
- assisting with editing of manuscripts for publication, particularly those whose authors are not native English speakers,
- working with the Book Review Editor(s) to ensure publication of at least two book reviews per year, serving as the final language editor for book reviews,
- scheduling, preparing for, and serving as Recording Secretary for the JRCE Administrative Board,
- scheduling, preparing for, and serving as Recording Secretary for the JRCE International Review Board,
- maintaining current membership lists and regular communication with for both boards,
- support the EIC’s outreach to recruit authors and reviewers through efforts such as social media campaigns and the EIC’s travel to relevant professional conferences and Christian university campuses. Other responsibilities may be added, based on the skills, interests, and vision of the successful applicant.

Qualifications
- Holds at least a bachelor's degree.
- Excellent high-level editing skills: language use, flow of ideas, organization of papers. Abilities in copy editing (punctuation, spelling, etc.) and formatting a plus, but not required.
- Strong language skills, including ability to draft initial communications for the EIC and Book Review Editor(s).
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- In-depth knowledge of publication processes.
- Expertise, or demonstrated ability to develop expertise, in standard office productivity software packages.
- Expertise in working in online environments.
- Strong organizational skills, including expertise in organizing electronic and paper files

Physical demands
- Must be able to sit for relatively long periods of time while working on a computer (maximum of 50 minutes between movement breaks).
- Must be able to work efficiently and effectively on electronic devices (ability to work on electronic screens for up to four hours at a time).
- Must be able to shelve journal issues and file both electronic and print documents.

Work environment
Standard office environment. Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Assistant offices have an interconnecting door.
