Qualifications summary

Mender I duties include simple (easy and difficult categories) book repair such as taping torn pages, replacing damaged call numbers, gluing loose pages, etc.  Some filing and shelving of library materials is required, as well as systematic documentation. Menders may also retrieve library items from various collections, and assist with general office duties. Menders should advise the Special Collections Manager of any mending or other problems they encounter.

Duties and responsibilities

Menders usually work in the Special Collections Workroom on the Main Floor, and occasionally in Bibliographic Services on the Main Floor or other locations. Menders may assist with any disaster recovery processes, such as flooding or fire recovery.
On occasion, menders may provide directional assistance to patrons or staff

Ability to file in numerical and alphabetical order
                        Ability to work with minimal supervision
                        Acceptable eyesight
                        Attention to detail
                        Manual dexterity
                        No allergies to dust or mending materials

Physically able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, climb and descend footstools, pick up heavy books.

Specifics of mending

Basic operation of Sierra library program
Work schedule as arranged with Special Collections Manager, M-F, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm only.  2-3 hour time blocks required, 10 hours weekly.  2 year commitment anticipated.

Technical competencies

Required:      Office Proficiency Assessment at Human Resources
                        Basic computer skills
                        Ability to communicate effectively in English
