Position summary

The Assistant Professor, Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Architecture holds a faculty appointment and has academic, service, professional practice, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the School of Architecture & Interior Design. This individual demonstrates competence in design studio education, teaching of assigned lecture courses, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications summary

- Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: architecture, engineering, construction management or equivalent terminal degree
- Licensure in one of the following disciplines: architecture, engineering, building or equivalent professional certification
- Hands-on construction experience preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
- Ability to teach structures preferred
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Create/review and update applicable syllabi for courses assigned
- Evaluate students’ course work and studio work for assigned courses
- Advise students as needed
- Participate in accreditation preparation and visit when applicable
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students
- Participate in school and university committees as required by policy
- Participate in creative scholarship, research, service, academic advising and teaching activities as required by Andrews University’s faculty policy
- Maintain professional expertise
- Participate in collecting assessment data for the school
- Other duties as assigned by the School of Architecture & Interior Design and/or the University

Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., AutoCad, Revit, and SketchUp) or proven ability to learn these skills
- Ability to navigate the online environment and work with Learning Management System (LMS) – Moodle (Learning Hub) preferred but training will be given
- Hands-on construction experience preferred
- Hand drawing skills preferred

- Must be competent mentoring students about living a Christian witness in the workplace
- Must be competent interacting with students in an advisory role
- Must be competent interacting with multiethnic and multinational faculty and student population
- Must be able to work effectively as a team member
- Must have the ability to form good student and peer relationships
- Must be an effective presenter/speaker/teacher
- Willingness to be flexible in teaching and other assignments

Work environment
- Lecture and studio courses will be taught mostly in the Architecture building; while some courses may require use of the design/build workshop, as well as domestic or international travel (e.g., field trips, mission trips and/or study tours)
