Position summary
Lifestyle Medicine Wellness Coach will be responsible for providing health coaching to the patients to work towards better health by providing support, encouragement, and education for healthier habits. The Wellness Coach is responsible for helping clients "shift" from a current undesirable situation into a new world of possibilities. By asking powerful but non-judgmental questions in a non-threatening environment, the Wellness Coach skillfully helps a member to become "unstuck" and to find their own answers. The Coach transforms the client's desired health and wellness state into reality.
Qualifications summary
- Bachelor’s degree in a health related field
- Wellness Coach Certified preferred
- Knowledge of specific disease and lifestyle related topics such as smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition, stress reduction and chronic conditions.
- Current knowledge of disease prevention (cardiovascular and diabetes) and basic understanding of exercise principles, nutrition and weight management. Preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Performs biometric measurements and blood screening tests at the clinic.
- Provides telephonic coaching, demonstrates an ability to deliver effective telephonic coaching in a manner that promotes behavior change.
- Assess participant needs, readiness for change and self-efficacy while utilizing readiness for change, motivational interviewing techniques and productivity measures to guide care. Documents goals, interventions and outcomes in the Health Coaching Assessment and database system.
- Promotes wellness and provides education regarding preventive care measures. Determine and provide relevant community and/or healthcare resources that help support participant’s desired change and effective medical care.
- Documents participant activities and coaching/counseling sessions in established clinical format in the database. Performs assessments and scheduling duties as required. Demonstrates established customer service behaviors and standards. Treat all clients with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism.
- Supports integration between wellness, medical and clinical programs in the ongoing development and implementation of reporting tools and methodologies.

Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors in a health-related field and training as a wellness coach
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent communication skills with mastery of spoken and written English.
REASONING ABILITY
Excellent critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Experience in PC-based word processing and database documentation (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook) Preferred

Work environment
Professional academic office, primarily indoors, with open space and multiple staff. Employee will also be required to work in/be exposed to, all weather conditions associated with the State of Michigan.
