LIBRARY - Custodian Student Assistant

Position summary
The Custodian student assistant helps the Facilities Coordinator with a variety of janitorial tasks in the library. These complement but do not substitute for the service the Custodial Department provides to the library.
Qualifications summary
Familiarity with basic cleaning techniques is necessary. There will be some written reports required. Ability to use a pallet jack and drive a forklift are helpful, but not required.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties may include cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies, emptying waste bins, vacuuming, cleaning windows, mopping, etc., following a specific timeline. Major janitorial tasks are referred to Custodial. Other tasks may be assigned.
The Custodian student assistant usually works in the James White Library, but may also include work in the Architecture or Music branch libraries, offsite storage units, or outdoors. On occasion, patrons may require directional or general assistance.

Work schedule as arranged with Facilities Coordinator, Sun-Fri, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm only. 2-hour time blocks required. 10 hours per week. 2-year commitment preferred.

Physical demands
Physically able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, climb and descend footstools, pick up heavy books, push 600 lb. book trucks, and move other heavy materials. Acceptable eyesight.
