Position summary
We are looking for a qualified Infant Teacher to love and nurture the littlest children in our center. The Infant Teacher should possess high energy and the ability to handle the demands of babies and toddlers with different personalities and needs.
To ensure success, the infant teacher should display a gentle and nurturing personality, and the patience to assist each infant or child to mature cognitively. They should be able to assist in developing the infants’ and children's social skills as they interact with each other.
Qualifications summary
- Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.
- Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver.
- Lead caregivers for infants must have 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs, or 45 hours of MiRegistry approved infant and toddler development and care practices within 6 months of hire.
- Must have high energy
- Must love children.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- The Infant teacher must be able to lead the classroom and care for children.
- Displaying a patient and calm personality coupled with a loving approach to every child.
- Lead a class without supervision and possibily without additional teachers.
- Accepts responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds.
- Manage all day-to-day classroom activities.
- Provides the children with verbal praises and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior.
- Maintains the Crayon Box's professional attitude and work behavior.
- Observes all rules and regulations of The Crayon Box and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children.
- Assists in other capacities, as determined by the Director.
- Ability to express themselves well in oral and written English
- Follows the schedule, as determined by the Director.
Responsibilities for Infant Teacher
- Provide a safe and loving environment for the infants in his/her care
- Give bottles to infants as provided by parents
- Feed infants' solid foods as age appropriate and provided by parents
- Change diapers as needed
- Soothe infants by singing to and cuddling them
- Follow daily schedule including outdoor playtime, worship and reading time.
- Supervise infants on the floor as they play with age appropriate toys
- Put infants in cribs for nap time and follow safe sleep requirements.
- Ensure play, sleep and changing areas are kept clean
Supervisory responsibilities
May supervise student workers, as determined by the Director
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.
- Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver: a bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a child-related field, associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or high school diploma with coursework in child-related field and experience.
- Lead caregivers for infants must have 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs, or 45 hours of MiRegistry approved infant and toddler development and care practices within 6 months of hire.
- Proven experience as an Infant teacher.
- Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and infant educational methods
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly, and reliable
- Must have a warm and friendly personality with sensitivity to the feelings and needs of both children and adults.
- Display a willingness to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center's philosophy and mission.
- Job requires much physical activity and a high energy level.

Physical demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Ability to wear a mask at all times while at work under the current guidelines of The State of Michigan is required.
Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
