Position summary
The department of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum is seeking a literacy professor who has experience teaching reading and writing at the elementary level. This position requires the individual to be certified with the state of Michigan and the North American Division. This full-time position requires knowledge and experience using a synchronous platform, integrated with Learning Hub. Field experience supervision within partnering schools will be required with this position. These courses will cover emergent literacy, writing, beginning reading, and reading methods and interventions.
Qualifications summary
Candidates must have at least an MS or MA degree in education and a current state and NAD elementary education certification with an endorsement or minor in reading/literacy. Candidates must have experience teaching reading in the elementary classroom.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- This position includes teaching literacy classes, preparing syllabi, supervising field experience in partnering school systems.
- Designing assessments to measure the knowledge and skills of students and reporting the assessments results for continuous improvement in the program.
- Communicating with students through office hours, emails and appointments.
Supervisory responsibilities
This position includes the supervision of field experience (practicum hours) in partnering schools.

Technical competencies
Candidates must have knowledge of and proficiency of ZOOM, Learning Hub, Word and Excel.
Interpersonal interactions
Candidates must be comfortable interacting with students in the classroom and with teachers and principals in the field of partnering schools. They must also be comfortable interacting with faculty and staff in the department.
Physical demands
The physical demands require the candidate to be able to travel to field sites and teach for 3 hours in some courses.
Work environment
The physical environment will include classrooms in Bell Hall and possible other university classrooms. It will also include K-8 classrooms in partnering schools. Some classes may be taught on ZOOM in a synchronous format.
