Position summary
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Population Health, Nutrition and Wellness holds a faculty appointment which will entail 25% of the time serving as the Director of Fitness and Exercise Science and 75% of the time teaching undergraduate and graduate exercise science classes.
Qualifications summary
- Master’s degree required in Exercise science or kinesiology , doctorate preferred in a related field
- ACSM, ACE or NASM Fitness certification(s) preferred (CGFI, CPT, CSCS, EP-C, EIM)
- Ability to work well in teams
- 1-3 years of teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
- Experience with research and publications preferred
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Communicates regularly with PHNW School Chair (Supervisor) regarding programmatic updates and initiatives.
- Monitors national initiatives in the field of exercise science as well as programmatic innovations and best practices.
- Participate in PHNW School initiatives such as assembly, graduation, dedication, recruitment, advising, and vespers.
- Monitors the university’s academic calendar.
- Create/review and update applicable syllabi for courses assigned.
- Evaluate students’ coursework and labs for assigned courses.
- Initiate accreditation process for Exercise Science program, and maintain status
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students
- Participate in scholarship, service and teaching activities as required by Andrews faculty.
- Collect assessment data for the program.
- Advising of Exercise Science majors and Fitness Education minors
- Other duties that may be assigned from the School of Population Health, Nutrition and Wellness.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Director of Fitness and Exercise Science program
- Supervise student workers when needed
- Oversee student internships and independent study projects.
Qualifications
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
- Microsoft Office, ability to use fitness assessment software, Online Teaching Platforms
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organization and writing skills required.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Discretion and sound judgement.
Interpersonal interactions
- Must be comfortable working with diverse faculty, staff and students.
- Willing to develop relationships throughout the fitness and physical therapy fields and across other sectors.
- Communicates regularly with PHNW School and faculty.
- Team oriented and collaborative.
