Position summary
Responsible for the aviation department maintenance shop maintaining the university fleet of Piper aircraft.
Qualifications summary
- Current FAA Aircraft Maintenance Certificate with both the Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
- Inspection Authorization
- Bachelors’ degree preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for all aspects of the aviation department maintenance shop maintaining the university fleet of Piper aircraft
- Preforming and supervising aircraft maintenance and inspection.
- Responsible for all maintenance requirements for the FAA Part 141 flight school included working with the Chief instructor to schedule all maintenance and inspections.
- Perform administrative tasks including documentation and record keeping. This will include reading budget statements and operating within the fiscal parameters.
- Responsible for ordering parts and tracking inventory.
- Maintain and manage shop equipment, tools, supplies.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students, faculty and staff.
- Maintain a safe maintenance environment through example, policy, and continuous evaluation.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with departmental responsibilities, and departmental and/or University policies.
- Participate in program promotion and public relations.
- Move aircraft in/out of hangar; aircraft fueling, and with normal aircraft maintenance activities.
Supervisory responsibilities
The ability to supervise staff and student workers working as mechanics in the shop.
Qualifications
- Current Aircraft Maintenance Certificate with both the Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
- Inspection Authorization
- Bachelors’ degree in aviation or related field degree is preferred.
- Prefer significant aircraft maintenance experience on a large variety of GA aircraft.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Desired 141 maintenance experience.

Must be able to work efficiently on the shop floor, as well as outdoors on the flight line in all types of Michigan weather.
