Position summary
This part-time position is a faculty position, with the special assignment of running the Andrews University Physical Therapy clinic. The clinic serves as a place where students apply skills learned in the classroom and laboratory as well as serving the PT needs of our community. The individual will hold a faculty appointment and have administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. As a faculty member, primary responsibilities include clinical instruction in the Postprofessional and/or Entry-level program.
Qualifications summary
- Earned entry-level physical therapist degree from a CAPTE accredited program.
- Earned advanced doctorate (academic or professional) preferred. Candidates enrolled in an academic doctorate with a reasonable projected completion date may be considered.
- At least five years of experience as a Physical Therapist and as a clinical instructor for PT students
- Management experience preferred
- Communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
- Exhibits a willingness to adhere to Christian principles, Seventh-day church member preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Promote the mission and vision of the University, College of Health and Human Services and School of Rehabilitation Sciences.
- Develop quality learning experiences that promote critical thinking in students
- Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, and administration as assigned.
- Work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
- Conduct marketing and recruitment of clients and referral sources
- Oversee the scheduling of clients
- Evaluate students' performance to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning.
- Regularly assess students’ performance to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning in the clinic
- Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, conduct labs, administer and grade student assignments/examinations
- Design and conduct research in particular field of knowledge.
- Present and publish research findings in peer reviewed forums.
- Direct, advise and provide mentorship to doctoral students in research.
- Student advising and mentorship on academic and clinical curricula.
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment.
- Serve on department and university committees as assigned by Department Chairperson.
- Arrange accommodations for students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Attend School, College and University faculty meetings and committees as requested.
- Evening and Sunday hours may be required
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervise graduate assistant or staff in delegated clinic management duties
- Supervise student physical therapists in the clinic setting

Technical competencies
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and an electronic medical record program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate expressively and receptively in English with all persons via written, electronic, and verbal methods.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Knowledge of basic statistical manipulations, financial and accounting processes.
REASONING ABILITY
Possess critical inquiry skills and judgment necessary to guide faculty and students and to interact with other faculty and staff.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current physical therapist license with eligibility for licensure in Michigan. Qualified for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) membership.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with students in an advisory and supervisory role. As well as interacting with patients and referring physicians.
Physical demands
- Physical demands of this job are in keeping with being a faculty member in an educational institution and a physical therapist clinician.
- Be able and available to travel by personal vehicle or commercial transportation for off campus marketing of the clinic.
- Be able to be away from home for two or more days at one time for professional conferences as appropriate.

Work environment
- Physical Therapy clinic, office space, lecture hall, laboratory space, university library, various on campus conference rooms, occasional off-campus clinical sites, faculty lounge, work and storage areas.
- Work in close quarters with other faculty, staff, students and PT clients.
