Position summary
In addition to basic customer-service and office duties, the Student Assistant for Social Media and Displays schedules, researches, creates, and posts a monthly bulletin board poster and related social media content.
This position is also responsible for installation, removal, and rotation of seasonal decor for the MMC office space (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, LP month, etc).
Occasionally, the role encompasses helping design, install, or remove displays and exhibits in the main library .
A commitment of 10-12 hours a week is required for this position.
Qualifications summary
The succesful applicant will demonstrate:
- Working knowlege of Western classical music notation
- Fluency in English at the conversational level or above
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Good time management and organizational abilty
- Self-motivation
- Interest in learning and improving marketing and graphic design skills
Additional beneficial qualifications include:
- Knowledge of other languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Chinese
- A background in art, graphic design, or communication
Duties and responsibilities
General customer service includes:
- Answering the telephone and emails
- Interacting with customers in person
- Using library software to check materials in and out
- Shelving library mateirals in a prompt and orderly manner
- Light, general cleaning of high-touch surfaces
Specific duties entail:
- Using MS Publisher, Canva, and Adobe products to design a monthly poster and related social media content
- Creating a schedule for monthly themes
- Meeting weekly and monthly deadlines for poster and content production

Qualifications
- Conversational or better fluency in English
- Knowledge of western classical music notation
- A minimum of 1-5 years performing western classical music at an intermediate level or higher
- Background in art, communication, or graphic design
Technical competencies
Must be comfortable with using a range of software products to create compelling and effective visual poster designs and social media posts:
- Canva
- MS office suite, especially Publisher
- Facebook/Meta business suite
- Adobe products, such as Acrobat and Spark
Interpersonal interactions
Daily office duties include interacting with customers/patrons in a helpful and friendly manner in-person, on the phone, and via email.
Physical demands
Sitting for up to 20 minutes at a time common.
Should be able to lift up to 20lbs, bend, strech, and kneel in order to shelve books
Work environment
Typical office environment. Low to moderate levels of noise and activity. Some dust or other allergens present.
