TRANSPORTATION - Roads and Equipment Technician

Job Classification

  Hourly Full-time (35-40)

Position summary

Heavy equipment maintenance, repair and operator

Driver of buses and trucks

Roads, parking lots and sidewalk maintenance and repair

This position is classified as an essential employee

Qualifications summary

Must have a class A Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement.

Must have and maintain a driving record in compliance with the requirements as specified in the Andrews University driving policy.

Must have basic mecanical skills necessary to maintain equipment and vehicles.

Must have basic equipment operator skills


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Bus and/or Truck driver of day and overnight trips

Snow plow operator

Heavy equipment operator

Mechanic preforming basic maintenance and repair of  heavy equipment, small equipment and vehicles

Maintains the roads, parking lots and sidewalks which includes but not limited to pothole repair, storm drain maintenance and repair, road sign installation and maintenance, road and parking lot striping, installing and or replacing sidewalks etc.

Supervisory responsibilities

May supervise one or more Student Employees

Qualifications

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 3 years driving experience, preferably in CDL vehicles. Must have the skills and certifications necessary to operate the range of heavy equipment used by the University

 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies

Must be able to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles owned by the University.

Must be able to maintain the University roads and parking lots.

Interpersonal interactions

Must be comfortable interacting with students, staff and faculty while working arround campus or driving for bus trips etc.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.  The employee is often required to stand and walk.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move 20 pounds or more and occasionally 50 pounds or more.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision. Work environment

The noise level is usually moderate. Occasional loud noise and unpleasant odors may be encountered.  Normal work hours are kept as much as possible.  After-hours, nights and weekend work will occasionally be required in order to take care of snowplowing, bus or truck trips and emergencies.  This position is considered an essential worker as defined in the employee handbook.
