Position summary
As member of the Counseling & Testing Center clinical team, provides individual, couple, and group counseling. Available for after-office hours, clinical consultations, and student crisis interventions. Maintains an assigned case load, and provides consultations on issues related to mental health. Reports to the Director of Counseling & Testing Center.
Qualifications summary
Doctoral degree (Ph.D/Psy.D. or equivalent) in Counseling/Clinical Psychology from a regionally accredited institution preferred. Will consider Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, or Clinical Social Work. Appropriately licensed (LP, LPC, LCSW), or license eligible in the state of Michigan.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Strong generalist skills in time-limited individual counseling, group psychotherapy, outreach/consultation, assessment and crisis intervention
- Provide clinical supervision of psychology interns, and other trainees
- Participate in internal research and professional development.
- Assist with the development & maintenance of policies and procedures governing clinical services
- Maintain clinical records and provide clinical documentation and communication with in-house and external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment
- Collaborate with Student life, Residence Hall Deans, School of Health Professions, and other campus departments in the offering of outreach programming, including Tuesday Choices, annual Wellness Fair, and Residence Hall mental health presentations
- Create and maintain collaborative relationships, communication and outreach methods with collegiate colleagues to effectively facilitate retention efforts and service students.
- Assist faculty with students who are experiencing difficulties relating to personal, vocational and academic concerns or related educational issues.
Perform related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervisory responsibilities include clinical supervision of clinical Mental Health graduate interns and/or doctoral level practicum clinicians
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree from an accredited academic institution
- Current LPC or full psychology license (LP) in Michigan
- Preferred minimum of one to two years experience in college mental health services
- Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory
- Commitment to working collaboratively within the Student Life Division, establishing and maintaining close working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators
- Previous work with a diverse student population preferred

Technical competencies
- Interpersonal, organization and communication skills required.
Computer efficiency, especially with Microsoft Word, Access PowerPoint and Excel Programs. Knowledge of Web page development and maintenance a plus.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with students, faculty, staff, university administrators, parents, and medical as well as mental health providers beyond the university campus.
Physical demands
This is a therapist postion so must be able to engage in interactive therapeutic relationships for a greater part of the day
