Position summary

The University president is the chief executive officer of the institution and reports to the Board of Trustees. The president appoints the remainder of the administrative team with confirmation by the Board of Trustees. The president and the Board of Trustees are appointed to five-year terms in the year following the quinquennial sessions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Qualifications summary

PhD or other doctoral level qualification.

Successful track record of leadership in higher education administration, preferably in North America.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Among other duties and responsibilities, the President is expected to perform the following:

 


  1. Lead the University Strategic Planning process, implement and adjust in coordination with the Board of Trustees as necessary.

  2. e committed to the Seventh-day Adventist worldwide church, and its educational mission, by striking a balance between academic freedom, fostering change, and commitment to the Church’s fundamental beliefs and it’s organization.

  3. Commit to multicultural diversity.

  4. Act as the University’s ambassador.

  5. Be able to build a highly effective administrative team and a collaborative campus administrative/leadership community.

  6. Demonstrate an excellent track record of effective administrative judgement, maintaining strong Adventist values at previous institutions and showing compassion in the administrative decisions made.

  7. Performs other appropriate duties as needed.



Supervisory responsibilities

In addition to providing oversight to the organization as a whole, the following individuals directly report to the President: Provost, VP Financial Administration, VP University Culture and Inclusion, VP Strategy, Marketing & Enrollment, VP University Advancement, Associate VP Human Resources, Executive Director of the Center for Youth Evangelism, Director of University Wellness, and the Special Assistant to the President.

Interpersonal interactions

Must be competent in interpersonal relationships with all campus and off-campus constituent groups (such as, students, faculty, staff, board members, local community, local and global church community, partner educational institutions).

Physical demands

Normal office physical demands, walking around campus, and capacity for considerable travel, locally and internationally.

Work environment

Regular office environment.
