Position summary
The Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture holds a faculty appointment and has academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the School of Architecture & Interior Design. This individual demonstrates competence in design studio education, teaching of assigned lecture courses, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications summary
- Master’s degree in architecture or equivalent terminal degree
- Commitment to Christ, personal spiritual maturity, and exemplary character
- Licensed Architect or equivalent professional certification (preferred)
- Teaching experience, preferred
- Keep current with best practices of the profession
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Teach students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Create/review, and update applicable syllabi for courses assigned.
- Evaluate students’ course work and studio work for assigned courses.
- Advise students as needed.
- Participate in accreditation preparation and visit when applicable.
- Maintain weekly office hours as required by policy to be available to students.
- Participate in school and university committees as required by policy.
- Participate in creative scholarship, research, service and teaching activities as required by Andrews University’s faculty policy.
- Maintain professional expertise.
- Participate in collecting assessment data for the school.
- Other duties as assigned by the School of Architecture & Interior Design and/or the University.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervise assigned students, student workers and graduate assistants.

Technical competencies
- Current knowledge and experience in the use of information and computer technology (e.g. AutoCad, Revit, and SketchUp) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Ability to navigate the online environment and work with Learning Management System (LMS) – Moodle (Learning Hub) preferred but training will be given.
- Hands-on construction experience preferred.
- Hand drawing skills preferred.

- Must be competent mentoring students about living a Christian witness in the workplace.
- Must be competent interacting with students in an advisory role.
- Must be competent interacting with multiethnic and multinational faculty and student population.
- Must be able to work effectively as a team member.
- Must have the ability to form good student and peer relationships.
- Must be an effective presenter/speaker/teacher.
Physical demands
- Must be able to perform normal classroom and design studio instruction.

Work environment
Lecture and studio courses will be taught mostly in the Architecture building; while some courses may require use of the design/build workshop, as well as domestic or international field trips and/or study abroad.
