Position summary

A full or associate professor of communication with areas of expertise in public relations, media relations, and social media. Teaching duties include communication skills--a general education requirement, introduction to public relations, advanced public relations courses, basic media writing, and communication theory courses. Faculty are required to adademically advise undergraduate students, and serve on departmental/ university committees.



 

Qualifications summary

A Master's degree in Communication is required. A PhD in Communication is preferred. Also, a minimum of 3-5 years of industry experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating professional PR experience.



Excellent interpersonal, writing and speaking skills.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaches undergraduate students, academically advises students seeking a career in communication, recruits for the VACD Dept., and serves on committees as assigned by the VACD Department Chair and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.



Continues to practice in their field of expertise in order to raise the prestige of AU faculty.

Technical competencies

Computer skills with Word and Excel. Understanding of social media platforms and Adobe Suite is a plus.

Interpersonal interactions

Teaches undergraduate students in a classroom, computer lab, and studio setting.  



Advises students, and oversees research, independent study, and Honors projects. 



Provides service to the department, school and university on appropriate committees and projects. 



A commitment to teamwork and collegiality.  



Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly as it relates to mentoring students and guiding them through career development.

Physical demands

A successful candidate will meet the physical demands described here as essential funtions of this job. The individual will stand for periods of time in front of a classroom of students. Sit and converse in an office setting. Work on a computer for long periods of time. The individual is required to communicate professionaly in person, over the telephone, through email and other electronic means.
