Position summary
Music library student assistants perform general customer service and office duties, as well as shelving materials.

Qualifications summary
Fluency in English (abilty to listen, respond, and ask clarifying questions), as well as some basic knowledge of Western music notation required. Basic knowlege of Word and Google Suite useful.
Ability to work between 12:30-2:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Fall Semester 2023 prefered.
Training provided.
Duties and responsibilities
Music library student assistants perform general customer service and office duties, as well as shelving materials.
Additional special duties may include cataloging, acting as the music materials ordering manager, or completing research tasks in the university archives. Special tasks are tailored to the interests and skills of the individual employee
Learning specialized library software, maintaining systamatic workflows, and updating multipage spreadsheets required. Training is provided.

Qualifications
The succesful applicant will demonstrate:
- Working knowlege of Western classical music notation (i.e. childhood piano lessons or high school band/choir level)
- Fluency in English at the conversational level or above
- Willingness to learn new things
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Self-motivation
- Abilty to communicate quickly and effectively
- Basic proficency with Office and Google applications.
Additional beneficial qualifications include:
- Knowledge of other languages such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Russian, etc.
Technical competencies
Basic proficency with Office and Google applications required.
Will be trained to use specific library content management software.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be comfortable interacting with multiple people in the same space at once. This includes being part of a library employee team as well as helping library guests. Some email and phone communication required.
Physical demands
Sitting for up to 20-60 minutes at a time is common in this job.
Should be able to lift up to 20lbs, bend, strech, and kneel in order to shelve books.
Hamel Hall was built before ADA and therefore does not have an elevator from the basement where the MMC is located up to the bathrooms on the main floor. Stairs must be used. Bathrooms accessible next door in the Campus Center, or in Buller Hall.
