Position summary

The Associate Chaplain provides faith engagement opportunities and spiritual care for students, advising and equipping faculty and staff, enriching the spiritual and intellectual life of the campus, assists in building a vibrant University community of faith and learning, and helps further the lofty mission of Andrews University to Seek Knowledge, Affirm Faith and Change the World. 

The Associate Chaplain does this work as an integral part of the Andrews University Center for Faith Engagement (CFE), grounded in the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The spiritual life master plan partly informs the vision and strategy for the CFE.

Duties and responsibilities



CFE seeks to build a team with diverse experience, skills, gifts, and backgrounds. The Associate Chaplain assists the University Chaplain and forms part of the CFE executive team in strategic planning, assessment, and implementation processes for holistic faith engagement programming and strategies according to the Spiritual Life Masterplan. This includes:

Additionally, the candidate exhibits God's unconditional love for all of humanity and proactively seeks ways to help students know God and experience God's love.

Physical demands

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, climb, and use the senses of sight, touch, hearing, speech, and smell.

Physical solid stamina is required to handle the stress of multiple responsibilities, critical decisions, and crisis care that impact student lives. Thus, along with the various programs of CFE, this position will often demand intensive, 7-day work weeks that may average 55 hours per week and often include evenings. The ideal candidate must have cultivated resilient emotional hygiene and self-care practices that also include a commitment to spiritual growth. Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 25 lbs.
