Position summary
The Director of University Health and Wellness reports to the President and is responsible for leading a university wide health and wellness advocacy program for Students, faculty, staff and community. It is an entirely new position intended to transform the institutional culture in keeping with the fundamental principles of an Andrews education that develops the physical, mental and spiritual quality of life on campus and in the community.
Qualifications summary
- Significant work experience in wellness or lifestyle programs or education and administrative or supervisory responsibilities,
- Academic research, teaching and counseling experience desirable.
- Master’s Degree required (Doctoral degree preferred) with specialization in at least one of the following health-related areas: Public Health (Preferred), Fitness, Clinical Health Science
- Additional degrees or experience in administration or education or counseling desirable
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Create, promote and project a culture of wellness at Andrews University in keeping with the health principles guiding the life, faith and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church.
- Identify wellness needs and issues at Andrews University, and work to find andimplement solutions to these needs and issues.
- Chair a wellness council (that should include representation from Chaplain’s Office, Counseling and Testing Center, Human Resources, the President, residence hall deans, School of Health Professions, Student Activities and Athletics, Student Life and invited community health professionals). The council will work to implement, supervise, coordinate and promote wellness initiatives and programs on campus for students, faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with the School of Health Professions’ personnel to provide a health and wellness class required for freshmen and any other course or courses in health that recommend themselves to this initiative and meet the university’s educational mission.
- Direct a program of ongoing health and wellness testing, by survey and biometric measurements, of students and university employees, and collaborate with the School of Health Professions in the area of health research.
- Direct or coordinate students and health faculty in wellness initiatives for the surrounding off-campus community.
- Work with Integrated Marketing and Communication (Internal and External Relations) to project and communicate the new culture of wellness at Andrews University.
- Cooperate with University Advancement in fundraising for health and wellness-related projects.
- Cooperate with the School of Health Professions and other relevant university entities in student.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
Experience in health and wellness management and professional doctorate in public health and wellness (preferred).
Master’s Degree required (Doctoral degree preferred) with specialization in at least one of the following health-related areas:
- Public Health (Preferred):
- Health promotion/education, health science, public health, nutrition, etc.
- Fitness:
- Physical education, exercise/sports science, kinesiology, etc.
- Clinical Health Science:
- Medicine (most-relevant specialties: lifestyle medicine, preventive medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, cardiology)
- Physical therapy
- Nursing (nurse educator, family nurse practitioner)
Additional degrees or experience in administration or education or counseling desirable
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Significant work experience in wellness or lifestyle programs or education and administrative or supervisory responsibilities,
- Academic research, teaching and counseling experience desirable.
