NEW TESTAMENT - Faculty of New Testament

Position summary

A tenure-track position that involves teaching a full load of courses at the masters and doctoral levels. Involves advising and mentoring of students. A candidate with expertise in textual criticism, teaching Greek, and New Testament backgrounds preferred. The role also includes active participation in Seminary and University life, fulfilling regular faculty duties in teaching, service, research, publication, and administration, with a focus on both academic contributions, and contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Qualifications summary

Must hold a PhD or ThD in Old Testament studies with a focus on New Testament exegesis and have teaching and pastoral experience. A record of academic engagement and publications is required. The candidate should have strong communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills, as well as a commitment to mentoring students and upholding Adventist beliefs and mission. A commitment to Scripture and spiritual maturity is  required.

 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Primary Duties


  1. Teach a full load of courses in New Testament studies at the masters and doctoral levels.

  2. Advise and provide mentorship to masters and doctoral students.

  3. Provide advocacy and leadership in the area of New Testament studies with a focus on textual criticism, Greek language and New Testament backgrounds for the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond).

  4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities.

  5. Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research and publication, and administration.



Supervisory responsibilities

Preferred: Experience in dissertation advising and supervision.

Qualifications

 


  1. An earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in the area of Old Testament studies with an emphasis in New Testament exegesis.

  2. Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on popular and scholarly levels.

  3. Experience in teaching and/or pastoral ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church is expected.

  4. Record of academic engagement and publications is expected along with a research agenda in the area of expertise; secondary area of textual criticism and New Testament backgrounds that is already begun or interest in developing a sub-focus, such as textual criticism is desirable.

  5. Understanding of adult learning practices and how to apply it in the context of theological education.

  6. Good online and computer skills to perform well in all three types of teaching delivery modes: in-person, synchronous hybrid, and asynchronous online.

  7. Good interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting well with students and staff.

  8. A personal history of healthy human relations, high moral integrity, and Christian spiritual maturity.

  9. Be a team player and sensitive to different cultures.

  10. Commitment to mentor students.

  11. Must sign the Delimitation statement of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary.

  12. Solid commitment to Scripture as the ultimate authority for faith and practice.

  13. Solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.

  14. Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
