Position summary
The Crayon Box Early Childhood Education Center is looking for a
kind, playful, energetic, and loving Assistant Teacher to join our cheerful
Room 101 (4-year-old) classroom for the
2025-2026 school year! This role is perfect for someone who loves working with little learners and can bring
joy, patience, and creativity to each day. You’ll team up with our amazing Lead Teacher to create a fun, Christ-centered, play-based environment.
Work hours: Monday–Thursday 9:00–6:00 and Friday 9:00–5:00 with a one-hour lunch break.
Training and certifications provided — smiles required!
Qualifications summary
Must be at least
18 years old with a
high school diploma. Must have
high energy, a positive attitude, and a
genuine love for working with young children. A degree or current major in
elementary education, child guidance/counseling, child psychology, family studies, or social work is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate
patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm while supporting the developmental needs of young children in a nurturing environment.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
The Assistant Teacher must be at least
18 years of age with a
high school diploma and demonstrate a strong
commitment to the responsibilities of this role. This individual must exhibit
punctuality, excellent time management skills, and a servant’s heart, approaching each day with
joy, patience, and creativity inspired by Christ’s love. A
genuine love for young children is essential, along with a
warm, kind, and nurturing personality. Sensitivity to the needs of both children and adults is expected, as well as the ability to bring positive energy and enthusiasm to daily tasks.
The Assistant Teacher must be
physically active and possess the stamina required to meet the demands of a busy classroom, supporting children through play, learning, meals, hygiene routines, and rest.
Responsibilities Include:

Assisting in classroom management and the care of children, including distributing lunches and washing dishes

Supervising the class independently and assuming Lead Teacher responsibilities when needed

Supporting all daily activities such as snacks, meals, nap time, and bathroom routines

Offering verbal praise and clear, consistent expectations to guide children’s behavior

Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment, including housekeeping tasks in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds

Following and supporting The Crayon Box’s Christian philosophy, mission, and schedule

Observing all health and safety regulations as required by local, state, and national guidelines
-
Maintaining a professional attitude, behavior, and appearance as a representative of The Crayon Box

Communicating clearly and professionally in both oral and written English
-
Working as a team with the Lead Teacher in Room 101 and collaborating regularly with the teaching teams in Rooms 107 and 113 to ensure consistency, support, and a unified approach to care and education

Performing additional duties as assigned by the Director
Supervisory responsibilities
-
May be responsible for supervising a classroom independently in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

Assumes the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher when directed, including managing daily routines, ensuring classroom safety, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Provides guidance and support to student workers as assigned by the Director or Lead Teacher.

Ensures children are appropriately supervised at all times, both indoors and outdoors, maintaining active engagement to promote safety and well-being.

Follows and upholds The Crayon Box’s policies, procedures, and expectations in all supervisory capacities.
Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma

Must possess a warm, friendly personality with sensitivity to the feelings and needs of both children and adults

Must demonstrate a genuine love for working with young children and bring a positive, energetic, and patient demeanor to the classroom

Willingness to fulfill responsibilities in alignment with The Crayon Box’s Christian philosophy and mission

Must have the physical stamina and high energy necessary to actively engage with children throughout the day

Previous experience caring for young children is preferred

CPR and First Aid certifications preferred but not required (training provided)

Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to early childhood education and best practices

Technical competencies

Classroom Technology Tools:
Able to confidently use technology commonly found in early childhood classrooms, such as CD players, classroom iPads, digital cameras, and TVs for music, movement, and learning activities.

Photo and Video Documentation:
Comfortable using phones, tablets, or cameras to capture and document children's activities for learning portfolios, bulletin boards, and parent communication while respecting privacy guidelines.

Educational Media Integration:
Experience using age-appropriate educational technology (e.g., digital storybooks, songs, Bible stories, movement videos like Yippee, or Christian children's worship videos) to enhance group learning and engagement.

Digital Record-Keeping:
Ability to assist with maintaining accurate electronic attendance, incident reports, nap charts, and allergy lists using center-approved platforms or software.

Basic Technology Troubleshooting:
Able to perform simple troubleshooting on common classroom technology (e.g., reconnecting Wi-Fi, recharging tablets, restarting devices) to ensure learning activities continue smoothly.

Audio/Visual Equipment:
Ability to set up and manage projectors, sound systems, or TVs for special events, story time, or classroom celebrations.

Organization of Digital Resources:
Helps organize digital teaching resources such as songs, videos, printable activities, and lesson materials on shared drives or devices for easy classroom use.

Confidentiality in Technology Use:
Understands and follows strict guidelines for maintaining confidentiality and child privacy when using technology for communication, documentation, and record-keeping.

Flexibility with Technology:
Willing and able to adapt to new technology tools introduced by the center to enhance learning, communication, or administrative processes.

Work environment
The Child Care Assistant Teacher position is performed primarily in an
early childhood classroom and outdoor play environments. The work requires frequent physical activity and active engagement with young children throughout the day.
The work environment may include
exposure to cleaning products, bodily fluids, and common childhood illnesses. Staff are responsible for maintaining clean, organized, and safe classroom and playground areas, which may include light housekeeping duties such as
washing dishes, sanitizing toys, and cleaning common use areas.
All duties are performed in accordance with the
health, safety, and supervision guidelines established by The Crayon Box and state licensing regulations.
