Position summary
We are looking for a dedicated, responsible, loving, and creative individual to help care for and support the children in our center. As a closing staff member, you will be actively involved in the safe supervision of children ages 2 weeks through 12 years and serve as the staff in charge when the Director is not on site. This includes interacting with families at pickup, supporting teachers, and ensuring the center is properly closed and secured each day.

Qualifications summary

Duties and responsibilities

Serve as Staff in Charge during closing hours in the absence of the Director, including answering questions, interacting with parents, supporting staff, and addressing situations professionally.

Be prepared to meet with licensing representatives or other visitors if they arrive when the Director is not on the premises.

Supervise a classroom independently and assume the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher during their absence.

Support children’s daily routines, ensuring safety and consistency throughout the afternoon and closing hours.

Assist in classrooms and provide direct care for children, including distributing snacks and meals, assisting with bathroom needs, and washing dishes as needed.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment by completing housekeeping tasks in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds.

Provide positive guidance, verbal praise, and clear expectations to foster children’s social and emotional growth.

Follow all policies, procedures, and licensing regulations related to health, safety, and child care.

Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions, maintaining The Crayon Box’s standards of conduct.

Communicate effectively in both oral and written English with staff, parents, and children.

Adhere to schedules and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

Perform additional tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the center.
Supervisory responsibilities
-
Serve as Staff in Charge during closing hours when the Director is not on the premises, including answering questions, communicating with parents, supporting staff, and addressing any concerns or licensing visits in a professional manner.

May be responsible for supervising a classroom independently in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

Assume the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher when directed, including managing daily routines, ensuring classroom safety, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Provide guidance and support to student workers or assistant staff as assigned by the Director or Lead Teacher.

Ensure children are actively supervised at all times, indoors and outdoors, promoting safety and well-being.

Follow and uphold The Crayon Box’s policies, procedures, and expectations in all supervisory capacities.
Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must demonstrate common sense, good judgment, and reliability when supervising children and interacting with families and staff.

Possess a warm, friendly personality with sensitivity to the feelings and needs of both children and adults.

Show a genuine love for working with young children, bringing a positive, energetic, and patient attitude every day.

Must have the physical stamina and energy to actively engage with children throughout the day, including lifting up to 40 lbs, standing, bending, and moving quickly.

Previous experience caring for young children is preferred but not required.

CPR and First Aid certifications preferred; training provided if not current.

Able to confidently use technology commonly found in early childhood classrooms, such as CD players, classroom iPads, digital cameras, and TVs for music, movement, and learning activities.

Comfortable using phones, tablets, or cameras to capture and document children's activities for learning portfolios, bulletin boards, and parent communication while respecting privacy guidelines.

Ability to assist with maintaining accurate electronic attendance, incident reports, nap charts, and allergy lists using center-approved platforms or software.

Able to perform simple troubleshooting on common classroom technology (e.g., reconnecting Wi-Fi, recharging tablets, restarting devices) to ensure learning activities continue smoothly.

Ability to set up and manage projectors, sound systems, or TVs for special events, story time, or classroom celebrations.

Helps organize digital teaching resources such as songs, videos, printable activities, and lesson materials on shared drives or devices for easy classroom use.

Work environment
The Child Care Assistant Teacher position is performed primarily in an
early childhood classroom and outdoor play environments. The work requires frequent physical activity and active engagement with young children throughout the day.
The work environment may include
exposure to cleaning products, bodily fluids, and common childhood illnesses. Staff are responsible for maintaining clean, organized, and safe classroom and playground areas, which may include light housekeeping duties such as
washing dishes, sanitizing toys, and cleaning common use areas.
All duties are performed in accordance with the
health, safety, and supervision guidelines established by The Crayon Box and state licensing regulations.
