Position summary
Andrews Academy (AA) is seeking a Physical Education Instructor who will serve as a spiritual and instructional leader in promoting student health, wellness, and holistic development. The instructor will provide engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education instruction while supporting the Academy’s mission:
“Think deeply, live fully, serve unselfishly, trust God completely.” This role includes fostering lifelong fitness habits, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and contributing to the overall student experience through multiple instructional and extracurricular responsibilities.
Qualifications summary
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, or related field required.
- Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Physical Education; Master of Education with Emphasis in Physical Education, preferred.
- Teaching certification (state or denominational) required or eligibility for certification within the NAD system.
- Experience teaching at the secondary level preferred.
- Commitment to Seventh-day Adventist education, lifestyle, and faith community.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality physical education instruction aligned with curriculum standards for grades 9-12.
- Teach courses such as Physical Education, Health, and other subjects based on school needs and instructor qualifications.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that address varied skill levels and learning styles.
- Assess student progress through performance assessments, skills tests, and written assignments; provide regular feedback to students and parents.
- Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, character development, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs, abilities, and health considerations.
- Ensure safe use of all physical education equipment and facilities.
- Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols.
- Keep accurate records of student health information, accommodations, participation and progress.
- Follow school policies and procedures related to student safety, supervision and risk management.
- Report safety concerns and equipment needs to administration in a timely manner.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification and respond appropriately to student injuries or medical situations.
- Organize, coordinate, and supervise intramural sports programs, fitness activities, and recreational opportunities.
- Plan and execute school-wide events such as field days, wellness weeks, and competitive tournaments.
- Serve as class sponsor and/or student association sponsor.
- Model and teach Christian values through sportsmanship, encouragement, and interpersonal interactions.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervise students during physical education classes, intramural activities, school-wide events, and assigned supervision duties. May assist in overseeing student aides, assistants, or volunteers as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform the Physical Education Instructor job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty efficiently. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

- Willingness and ability to teach additional courses or serve in other capacities as needed

Technical competencies
Must demonstrate proficiency in office and educational software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and student information systems (RenWeb, PowerSchool, or FACTS). Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Google Classroom) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) is required. Ability to use technology for lesson planning, grading, communication with families, and student data management.
Interpersonal interactions
Must be approachable, energetic, and relational with students, families, and staff. Demonstrates the ability to lead by example in promoting healthy living and Christ-centered relationships. Must be a collaborative team player who contributes positively to the school culture, mission, and daily operations. Flexibility, patience, and a servant-hearted attitude are essential.
Physical demands
The role requires active participation in physical activities, including standing, walking, running, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs), demonstrating exercises and movements, and supervising outdoor activities in various weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made as needed
Work environment
The work environment includes gymnasiums, outdoor fields, fitness facilities, classrooms, and general school areas. The instructor may be exposed to varying weather conditions during outdoor activities and events. Work may extend beyond regular school hours for events, supervision, and school functions.
