Position summary
Andrews Academy (AA) is seeking an English Instructor who will serve as a spiritual and academic leader in the classroom, fostering students’ growth in literacy, critical thinking, and communication. The instructor will deliver engaging and rigorous instruction in English Language Arts, including literature, writing, grammar, and communication skills. This role supports the Academy’s mission:
“Think deeply, live fully, serve unselfishly, trust God completely,” by integrating faith, learning, and character development into daily instruction.
Qualifications summary
The English Instructor will demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of Andrews Academy and the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy of education. The candidate should model Christ-centered living and mentor students academically and spiritually. Experience working with diverse and multicultural student populations is preferred. The individual must possess strong instructional practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to foster a positive and engaging learning environment. A passion for literature, writing and student development.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality instruction in English courses (e.g., Literature, Composition, Grammar, Advanced Placement or Honors courses as assigned).
- Develop lesson plans that promote critical thinking, reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and effective communication.
- Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods and provide timely feedback.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and support student success.
- Integrate faith and values into curriculum and classroom discussions.
Academic & Student Support
- Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive environment during all academic activities.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students and parents.
- Provide additional academic support as needed (e.g., tutoring, writing support, mentoring).
- Collaborate with the guidance counselor and administration regarding student academic needs.
- Serve as a class or organizational sponsor, supporting activities and fostering class community.
Program & School Involvement
- Participate in curriculum development and departmental collaboration.
- Engage in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Support extracurricular activities such as yearbook, drama, publications, or clubs as assigned.
- Participate in supervision duties and school-wide responsibilities.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow school policies and procedures related to student safety and supervision.
Other duties may be assigned
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervises students in classroom and school settings. May advise student organizations or activities as assigned.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required, MA preferred
- Teaching certification (state or denominational) preferred
- Experience teaching at the secondary level preferred
- Commitment to Seventh-day Adventist education and lifestyle

- Must demonstrate proficiency in office and educational software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and student information systems (RenWeb, PowerSchool, or FACTS). Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Google Classroom) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) is required.
