Position summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible teacher to help lead our Summer Camp team for June 1 through August 20.
All required job trainings will be provided, including background checks, fingerprinting, and CPR/First Aid certification.

(Will be assigned a daily one-hour unpaid lunch break)

Qualifications summary
Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma. Candidates should love working with young children and demonstrate patience, positivity, flexibility, and good common sense while upholding Christian values. Strong teamwork, punctuality, professionalism, and time management are essential. Applicants must also be physically able to meet the demands of an active classroom environment.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
The Summer Camp Teacher supports a safe, active, and engaging environment for school-age children by maintaining structure, encouraging positive behavior, and helping create a fun and memorable summer experience. Reliability, strong supervision skills, flexibility, and teamwork are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assist with daily camp schedules, games, activities, and on-campus outings
- Plan and support hands-on, age-appropriate activities for school-age children
- Actively supervise children at all times to ensure safety throughout campus, playgrounds, and outdoor areas
- Encourage teamwork, kindness, responsibility, and positive behavior
- Help maintain clean, organized camp spaces and materials
- Participate in outdoor activities, active play, and group games daily
- Work collaboratively with camp staff and the Director to create a positive camp environment
- Communicate professionally with children, families, and staff
- Follow all center policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements
- Assist with additional camp duties and responsibilities as needed
Supervisory responsibilities
- Provide active supervision of school-age children at all times during indoor activities, outdoor play, meals, transitions, and on-campus outings
- Maintain accurate attendance counts and follow all safety and transition procedures
- Ensure children remain within designated camp areas and follow camp expectations
- Guide and redirect behavior using positive, respectful discipline strategies
- Monitor children’s safety, emotional well-being, and interactions with peers
- Communicate concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues promptly to the Director or lead staff
- Assist in supporting and guiding student aides or volunteers as directed
- Help ensure all licensing ratios, supervision standards, and safety procedures are consistently maintained
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with school-age children preferred
- Ability to create a positive, energetic, and engaging environment for children
- Strong supervision, communication, teamwork, and classroom management skills
- Demonstrate patience, flexibility, professionalism, and good judgment
- Ability to follow directions, maintain routines, and adapt to changing daily needs
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively with others
- Ability to actively participate in outdoor activities and supervise children in a variety of settings
- Must meet all state licensing and background check requirements prior to working independently with children

- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations and maintain awareness of children at all times
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during summer camp activities
- Ability to maintain energy, attentiveness, and professionalism throughout a fast-paced workday
Work environment
- Work is performed in a childcare and summer camp setting with frequent indoor and outdoor activities
- Environment may include noise, large group activities, active movement, and frequent transitions throughout the day
- Staff regularly work outdoors on playgrounds, athletic fields, sidewalks, and other areas across the Andrews University campus
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, sun, wind, and light rain during outdoor activities
- Frequent interaction with children, families, staff, and visitors throughout the workday
- Work environment requires constant awareness of safety, supervision, and child well-being
