WRITING CENTER - Writing Tutor (Graduate Level)

Position summary

Provide writing support and tutoring for graduate students.

Qualifications summary

Candidates should have strong academic writing skills, as well as undergraduate preparation in a writing-heavy field of study.  Must have a positive and supportive attitude. Fluency in English is assumed; fluency in a second language is desirable. 

Duties and responsibilities

Provide one-on-one tutoring support to graduate students working on various writing projects.

Participate in ongoing tutoring-training.

Participate in marketing efforts to attract graduate students for tutoring in the Writing Center.

Prepare and lead occasional workshops on relevant writing topics for graduate students.

Supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications

Must be a graduate student.

Demonstrated academic writing ability and editing skills.

Healthy cynicism regarding AI as a writing tool.

Preference given to candidates with previous writing center and/or tutoring experience, as well as those enrolled in the any of the following graduate programs: Theological Seminary, College of Health and Humans Services, or College of Education and International Services.

 

Technical competencies

Familiarity with various writing platorms (Microsoft Word, Pages, Google Docs, etc).

Interpersonal interactions

Comfortable interacting with a variety of types of people.

Self-directed, friendly, and reliable.

Creative, problem-solver.  Invested in others.  A good listener.
