Position summary

The Student Office Assistant helps the School of Business Administration (SBA) Chair’s Office operate efficiently and professionally. The position provides administrative and customer service support to the Chair, faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Responsibilities include office support, scheduling, event assistance, digital content, and maintaining an organized and welcoming office environment.

Technical competencies

The Student Office Assistant should be comfortable using standard office technology, including computers, printers, copiers, telephones, email, calendars, and cloud-based applications. The student should be able to create professional documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and visual materials using Microsoft Office, Canva, or similar software.

Experience with social media, photographs, digital media, iCloud, and Apple TV is helpful. The ability to learn and use University-specific systems and new technology is required.

Interpersonal interactions

The position requires regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and campus partners. The Student Office Assistant must communicate clearly and respectfully, provide courteous and professional assistance, and work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. The student should be comfortable answering questions, providing information, directing individuals to appropriate resources, and maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Physical demands

The position requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, as well as stand and walk throughout the office and campus as needed. The student must be able to perform routine office tasks and occasionally move furniture, supplies, equipment, or boxes and lift and carry up to approximately 40 pounds.

Work environment

The position is primarily performed in a typical university office environment with standard office equipment and limited noise. Work may also take place in classrooms, conference rooms, event spaces, and other areas of campus.
