Position summary

With a high degree and wide range of day-to-day independent decision making, the associate director complements the work of the director in overseeing all aspects of the operation of the Press, including editorial product development and planning, publicity and marketing, and direct management of all major business operations of Andrews University Press.

Qualifications summary

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree, and proven record of three to five years related business experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Academic/Editorial Experience and Skills: The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding of the academic environment, and particularly of academic publications and publishing; an ability to evaluate a proposed project for its appropriateness and possibilities as an academic publication, and to actively counsel and participate in its development for that purpose.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities



Supervisory responsibilities

General responsibility to manage student labor workforce for the Press. Directly supervises 3-8 student employees as office workers and support staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Technical competencies

Computer Skills: Strong practical knowledge of all computer software applications customarily used and expected in a sales operation, including word processing, database, spreadsheets, standard financial management, sales, and order fulfillment.
 

Interpersonal interactions

Must interact comfortably with all the people who interact with the Press:  students, faculty, staff, customers and vendors.  Must have a warm and friendly personality.  Must be willing to help customers according to their needs.  Must be willing to train and supervise students. Must be a team player and fit comfortably with the office atmosphere, including particularly its spiritual/faith-based focus.
