Position summary
Provides support services to students, staff, and parents. Support services include referrals, counseling, assessment, diagnostics, and report writing. This work takes place at the school site, in other public buildings, and in private residences. Additional responsibilities include student rostering/scheduling, maintaining individual student Education Plans, etc.
Qualifications summary
Education: Master’s degree (preferred) in field of social services, including certification in school counseling
Experience providing this type of service is preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provides direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms.
- Completes assessments, referrals, and counseling with students and families.
- Oversees implementation of Andrews Academy testing program. Consults with other professional staff and outside agencies and other organizations.
- Develops and maintains family outreach programs and community partnerships.
- Serves as a member of the family support team/crisis management and other school based teams.
- Completes written reports as needed or as requested by Principal.
- Provide direct service to students in the classroom as needed.
- Completes reports as required by Federal, State and local agencies.
- Conduct professional development workshop on identifying at-risk students.
- Help students choose the best strategies for formulating future goals and preparing for either further education, or entry into the workforce. They may administer and interpret career interest and aptitude tests and provide resources for applying to college.

Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree (preferred) in field of social services, including certification in school counseling
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills-
Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred certification in school counseling

Must feel and act comfortably with all the people who interact with this office: students, faculty, and staff. Must have a warm and friendly personality. Must be willing to help "clients" according to their needs. Must be willing to train and supervise students, and also interact on a professional level with faculty and staff. Must be a team player and fit comfortably with the office atmosphere and philosophy of advocacy.

This position may involve activities such as standing, sitting, talking or listening. Must be willing to drive to local public schools or other learning institutions for collaborative efforts.
Work environment
The Work Environment will mostly take place at Andrews Academy but certain occasions require short travel for visits. The environment will be quiet in nature working with small groups of students.
