Position summary

The primary role of this faculty position will be Director for the Internship Program of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly called Dietetic Internship Director).  The Internship emphasis is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) with Food Service Management and Community Nutrition also being part of this internship.  Director responsibilities include advising students, accreditation, recruiting, curriculum & internship site management, assessment, teaching nutrition & dietetic courses, and attend appropriate university & departmental committee meetings.

Duties and responsibilities

ACCREDITATION:

  1. Communicates with Department Chair and administrators concerning program/curriculum accreditation compliance standards of the Accreditation Council of Education for Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)

  2. Communicates with ACEND regarding program requirements, maintenance evaluation, and major program changes

  3. Maintains data related to program goals and outcomes. Prepare and submit Annual ACEND Report & self-study.

  4. Provides eligible interns program verification statement from the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR). Responsible for submitting required documents to CDR for routine CDR audit.


ADMISSION/REGISTRATION:  

  1. Understands and manages the application process, computer matching process and appointment phase.

  2. Selects candidates for internship using Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS) and D& D (Matching system). 

  3. Responsible for all AU internship registration process in partnership with the AU Graduate School:


ASSESMENT:

  1. Conducts yearly program assessments

  2. Supervise collection of documents for data analysis.

  3. Incorporates assessment data into the AU assessment program.

  4. Evaluates surveys from first employer and graduates.


CURRICULUM:

  1. Yearly updates made to intern handbook, rotation pre/post-tests, and revisions of internship curriculum.

  2. Coordinates CDR test and administers to graduates in preparation for RD/RDN Registration Exam.

  3. Coordinates Annual Dietetic Internship 3-Day Orientation in August.




MARKETING/RECRUITING:

  1. Recruits, orients and trains new Site Coordinators (Main Preceptors)

  2. Responsible for recruiting and coordinating new internship sites.

  3. Updates Preceptor Orientation Handbook.

  4. Prepares internship program brochure for marketing purposes.

  5. Monitor Andrews University and Academy website. Update internship information as needed. Maintains internship Facebook account.


TRAVEL: 

  1. Required to make yearly visits to the 9 national sites for promotion of program, networking and evaluation of intern’s performance.

  2. Required to attend The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual Food and Nutrition Conference (FNCE) for Academy updates and networking.


INTERN MANAGEMENT:

  1. Reads intern weekly reports, and provides feedback; conducts chats with interns throughout internship; manages grievances; assists recent internship graduates to obtain their first job,communications with interns during first year until they find a job.

  2. Coordinates annual meeting with the 2 advisory committees. 


FACILITY/SITE MANAGEMENT:

  1. Maintains communication with sites to promote good working relationships via email, phone and annual visits.

  2. Responsible for maintaining facility contracts, and keeping contracts up to date; maintains yearly updates on facility requirements and policy’s critical for intern knowledge prior to starting the internship

  3. Schedules Community Nutrition rotations for all interns – nationwide.  


TEACHING:
The director will teach selected course(s) in the department based on need and varying course load.

Work environment

The work environment includes a private office for faculty within a department main office, common space, and classrooms. It is typically quiet. Beyond what is found in a typical office environment there is little exposure to outdoor conditions. Some travel is required for this position.
