CHRISTIAN MINISTRY - Assistant Professor of African-American Christian Ministry

Position summary

Assistant Professor of Christian Ministry with an emphasis in African-American ministry. Full-time (75-100%) teaching a full graduate load of courses for the Christian Ministry Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary.

Qualifications summary

African-American person with significant professional pastoral experience in the Seventh-day Adventist context holding an earned terminal degree in ministry or religion. Must have a passion for developing pastors and a commitment to research and publication of relevance to the advancement of understanding the practice of Christian Ministry.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities


  1. Teach a full load of practical ministry courses with an emphasis in African–American ministry, worship, and related disciplines.

  2. Advise and provide mentorship to master and doctoral students.

  3. Provide advocacy and leadership in areas of African-American Christian Ministry (African-American culture, preaching; urban ministry and social issues) to the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond).

  4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities.

  5. Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, and publication, and administration.



Supervisory responsibilities


  1. Work with Administrative assistant

  2. Supervise graduate assistant



Qualifications


  1. An earned doctoral degree (PhD or DMin) in the area of practical theology or congregational ministry (homiletics, ecclesiology, leadership, cross-cultural ministry, etc.).

  2. Demonstrated competence in teaching.

  3. Pastoral ministry experience in the African-American Seventh-day Adventist Church.

  4. A record of academic engagement and publications and a desire for an on-going research agenda in area of expertise.

  5. An understanding of adult learning practices and how to apply it in the context of theological education.

  6. Strong interpesonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting winsomely with students and staff.

  7. A personal history of healthy human relations, high moral integrity, and Christian spiritual maturity.

  8. A commitment to mentor students.

  9. Capacity to communicate effectively and dynamically both on a popular and scholarly level.

  10. Solid support of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and mission.

  11. Demonstrate mature spirituality
