Position summary

Director, Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) Program and Faculty Member, Master of Public Health (MPH) Program.

The BSPH Director will be responsible for providing solid leadership and direction for the BSPH program; implementing and evaluating the program with an emphasis on measuring outcomes using data and best practices; regularly prioritizing pragmatic objectives and activities; teaching MPH courses as assigned.

The BSPH Program Director/MPH Faculty will be forward-thinking, a proactive leader with excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills; willing to be develop relationships throughout the public health field and across other sectors; strong public speaking and presentation skills; have discretion, and sound judgement; team orientated and collaborative. In addition, the Director should encourage grant writing, fundraising, recruitment, and grasp of community capacity building with a knowledge/understanding of racial equality related to determinants of health.

Qualifications summary

The BSPH Program Director/ MPH faculty member must be a holder of one of the following degrees from an accredited school/program: Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) or a PhD in Public Health. Applicant must have excellent organizational skills. Applicant will be an active member of the faculty of Andrews University Department of Public Health, Nutrition, and Wellness (PHNW), School of Health Professions (SHP). 


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

Work duties will include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP - PROGRAM DIRECTION/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Effectively directs programmatic activities to ensure the BSPH program maintains its accreditation and university standards

  2. Leader for BSPH program evaluation for academic content, design & recruitment

  3. Administers program/curriculum accreditation compliance standards of the Accreditation Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)

  4. Communicates with CEPH regarding program requirements, maintenance evaluation, and major program changes

  5. Communicates regularly with PHNW Department Chair (Supervisor) regarding programmatic updates and initiatives.

  6. Monitors national initiatives in the field of public health as well as programmatic innovations and best practices.

  7. Collaborates with SHP Dean, Department Chair, MPH Director and MPH faculty to assess needs and development of BSPH program

  8. Works collaboratively across local, regional and/or national sectors with diverse, strong, and influential partners to achieve common goal



TEACHING/SCHOLARSHIP/ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. BSPH Director will teach selected courses within the MPH Program as assigned by the Department Chair and/or MPH Director, based on needs and varying course load.

  2. Student Advising and mentoring

  3. Attends and makes contributions to required Departmental and MPH program meetings. Attends university and SHP meetings as assigned.

  4. Participates in collaborative research. Develops manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals. Attends & submits abstracts to professional conferences (APHA).

  5. Supports and encourages student scholarship.

  6. Seeks and develops funding relationships to write and submit grant proposals

  7. Supports PHNW Departments initiatives

  8. Monitors the university’s academic calendar

Qualifications

Holder of one of the following degrees from an accredited school/program: Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) or a PhD in Public Health. Applicant must have excellent organizational and analytical skills.

Technical competencies

Microsoft Office, Experience with Data Analysis (ie SPSS or SAS), Online Teaching Platforms

Must be comfortable working with diverse faculty, staff and students.
