Scott Moncrieff's Father Died

   Agenda | Posted on February 3, 2015

Robert E. Moncrieff, father of Scott Moncrieff, professor of English, passed away last week in Loma Linda, California. He was born in China in 1926 where he lived for the first 13 years of his life. He attended Andrews Academy after returning from China, and served in the army in WWII, mainly stationed on Guam in the South Pacific.

Returning after the war, Robert completed a business degree at La Sierra and married. He later went back to school and received a medical technologist degree, worked in a lab and decided to go to medical school. He graduated from Loma Linda with his MD in 1967, specializing in pathology and blood banking, and worked at Loma Linda University for many years as the chief medical consultant for the blood bank, giving occasional lectures to med tech and medical students.

For over twenty years Robert had Parkinson's disease, and his quality of life was severely diminished for the last three quarters of that time. He was a kind, patient, generous and attentive father, and though not a great reader outside of medical books, US News and World Report and Time Magazine, Robert loved words and helped stimulate his son's interest in them.

The memorial service is scheduled to be held at the Brian S. Bull Pathology Building in Redlands, CA on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.

Thank you for keeping the Moncrieff family in your prayers as they say goodbye to a beloved father.
