\n Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy in Asia. It consists of thirteen states and three federal territories and has a total landmass of 329\,847 square kilometers (127\,350 \;sq \;mi) separa ted by the South China Sea into two similarly sized regions\, Peninsular M alaysia and Malaysian Borneo. Land borders are shared with Thailand\, Indo nesia\, and Brunei\, and maritime borders exist with Singapore\, Vietnam\, and the Philippines. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur\, while Putrajaya i s the seat of the federal government. In 2010 the population was 28.33&nbs p\;million\, with 22.6 \;million living on the Peninsula. The southern most point of continental Eurasia\, Tanjung Piai is in Malaysia\, located in the tropics. It is one of 17 mega diverse countries on earth\, with lar ge numbers of endemic species. The official language of Malaysia is Malays ian\, a standardized form of the Malay language.

\n Malaysia has i ts origins in the Malay Kingdoms present in the area which\, from the 18th century\, became subject to the British Empire. The first British territo ries were known as the Straits Settlements\, whose establishment was follo wed by the Malay kingdoms becoming British protectorates. The territories on Peninsular Malaysia were first unified as the Malayan Union in 1946. Ma laya was restructured as the Federation of Malaya in 1948\, and achieved i ndependence on 31 August 1957. Malaya united with North Borneo\, Sarawak\, and Singapore on 16 September 1963\, with si being added to give the new country the name Malaysia. Less than two years later in 1965\, Singapore w as expelled from the federation.

\n The 1st of September is the celebrated Independence Day. On this day Uzbekistan made a declaration of independence from the Soviet Union \; in 1991.

\n Uzbekistan\, officially the Republic of U zbekistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia. Between 1924 and 1991\, it was part of the Soviet Union.

\n

\n Once part of the Persian Sama nid and later Timurid empires\, the region which today includes the Republ ic of Uzbekistan was conquered in the early 16th century by nomads who spo ke an Eastern Turkic language. This region was subsequently incorporated i nto the Russian Empire in the 19th century\, and in 1924 it became a borde red constituent republic of the Soviet Union\, known as the Uzbek Soviet S ocialist Republic (Uzbek SSR). It subsequently became the independent Repu blic of Uzbekistan on August 31\, 1991 (officially\, as of the following d ay). Most of Uzbekistan&rsquo\;s population today belong to the Uzbek ethn ic group and speak the Uzbek language\, a language belonging to the family of Turkic languages. Uzbekistan is Central Asia'\;s most populous coun try. Its 30\,183\,400 citizens comprise nearly half the region'\;s tota l population.
