\n

\n "\;The New Life Fellowship is a vibrant\, wors hip culture that seeks to facilitate the discovery of a New Life! What doe s this new life look like? Great question. In John 10:10\, Jesus promises all of us an opportunity to receive New Life! And we believe this new life will manifest itself in four distinct ways: God will introduce you to a n ew Love\, a new Integrity\, a new Faith\, and a new Experience. The New Li fe Fellowship invites the Andrews community to participate in chasing afte r a tangible\, life-altering encounter with God that literally ushers in a brand New Life!"\;

\n The Michiana Adventist Forum presents "\;What Can We Learn from Gravity Waves?"\; with Tiffany Summerscales\, associate pro fessor of physics at Andrews University and member of the Laser Interferom eter Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) Scientific Collaboration. Her p resentation will take place Sabbath\, August 27\, 2016\, at 3:30 p.m. in G arber Auditorium of Chan Shun Hall.

\n

\n About the Subject

\n

\n On September 14\, 2015\, the LIGO detectors measured gr avitational waves for the first time coming from a pair of merging black h oles. Just a few months later\, a second signal was measured. In this talk we will explore some questions that these discoveries raise\, such as: wh at are gravitational waves and what do they teach us about the universe we live in?

\n

\n About the Speaker

\n

\n Origina lly from New Hampshire\, Summerscales attended Andrews University and grad uated in 1999 with a BS in mathematics and physics. She then went to gradu ate school at Penn State University and received a PhD in physics in 2006. While there\, she worked with LIGO (the Laser Interferometer Gravitationa l-wave Observatory) which seeks to measure gravitational waves. She is an associate professor of physics at Andrews University\, where she joined th e faculty in 2006. \; She is married to Rodney Summerscales\, who teaches in the Andrews Univers ity Department of Engineering &\; Computer Science. She enjoys biking\, kayaking\, hiking\, knitting and camping.
