14th Annual Seminary Scholarship Symposium

Featuring Millard Erickson

On February 6, 8 and 9, the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University will host the 14th Annual Seminary Scholarship Symposium. The yearly academic gathering seeks to foster scholarly dialogue among Seminary faculty and students. This year’s symposium features Dr. Millard Erickson, acclaimed theologian, as the plenary speaker. Erickson, best known for his systematic theology work Christian Theology, is the author of more than 30 books and is the former dean of Bethel Theological Seminary.

Erickson will deliver two presentations on Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Seminary Chapel. The first presentation at 11:30 a.m. is entitled “A God for Changing Times.” The second presentation at 7 p.m. explores the question, “Are There Ranks in the Trinity?” Darius Jankiewicz, professor and chair of the Department of Theology and Christian Philosophy will follow the second presentation with a response. All are welcome to attend these sessions at no charge.

The Seminary Scholarship Symposium begins on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 11:30 a.m. in the Seminary Chapel with the annual Recognition Assembly, highlighting outstanding scholarship among faculty and students. The Horn Excellence in Research Award will be given, along with Doctor of Ministry dissertation awards. In addition, selected publications by Seminary faculty and students will be celebrated.

The Symposium Book Sale will be held on February 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Seminary Commons. This year vendors include the ABC Christian Book Center, Adventist Theological Society Publications, Andrews University Seminary Studies Journal, Andrews University Press, Seminary Department of World Mission Publications, Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, and Zondervan.

Poster and breakout sessions featuring selected academic research projects conducted by Seminary students and faculty will be hosted in various locations in the Seminary on February 8 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. and February 9 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
