Easter Celebration Choral Concert: "Lift Him Up"

Campus News | Posted on March 29, 2018

Andrews University’s annual Easter Celebration Choral Concert will take place on March 30, 2018, at 7 p.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center. The program, titled “Lift Him Up,” will be presented and directed by Stephen Zork.

In addition to performances by the Andrews University Chorale and Andrews University Singers, the concert will be a collaborative event featuring three more choirs in residence at Andrews University: Journey, under the direction of Marguerite Samuel; Deliverance Mass Choir, under the direction of Carl Cunningham; and Girls of Mercy, under the direction of Sinegugu Katenga.

The redemptive story of salvation will be told through both spoken and sung narratives portraying Christ’s ministry, His being lifted up on the cross, His being lifted down from the cross, His being lifted into the tomb and His being lifted up at His resurrection. The repertoire will cover a wide range of musical styles from Josef Rheinberger’s setting of “Agnus Dei” (Lamb of God) from the Mass in E flat major to Keith Hampton’s arrangement of Richard Smallwood’s “Anthem of Praise.” The combined choirs will conclude the ecclesiastical concert with performances of Glenn Burleigh’s “Order My Steps” and Smallwood’s “Anthem of Praise.” The concert will be a multidimensional visual and aural experience.

No tickets are required for this concert; however, a free-will offering will be received. For additional information, contact the Howard box office at 269-471-3560. For a full season schedule of events at the Howard Performing Arts Center, visit howard.andrews.edu.
