Wanted: Organist/Pianist/Accompanist

Fairplain Presbyterian Church in Benton Harbor is in need of a pianist/organist/accompanist beginning September 1, 2018.

Job Description
A candidate should demonstrate advanced sight-reading skill in piano playing and in accompanying choirs. Previous experience in organ playing is appreciated, but not required.

The applicant should be available regularly on Sunday mornings 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. throughout the year, and on Wednesday evenings for choir rehearsal, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. The choir usually takes up to three months off during the year.

Most Sunday mornings the applicant should be prepared to play a piano or organ prelude and postlude, three congregational hymns that vary from week to week, and three standard musical responses that repeat most Sundays. In addition, the applicant will accompany the Chancel Choir and various choral groups or soloists for an anthem and an offertory.

One Sunday each month (typically, the 3rd Sunday of the month), a praise team will provide the anthem and offertory music. Playing for weddings and funerals will be by request from the respective family and additionally compensated by the family.

Approximate schedule by weeks

  • 30 weeks/year for Sunday full worship service plus Wednesday rehearsal
  • 10 weeks/year for Sunday service without anthem & offertory plus Wednesday rehearsal
  • 10 weeks/year for Sunday full worship service only
  • 2 weeks/year vacation

Compensation: Annual salary range of $4,800 to $5,800 determined by experience and ability, plus two weeks of paid vacation.
