Elaborately decorated booths outlining the gym’s perimeter represent 15 international student clubs ready to sell their cultures’ staple dishes to hungry attendees.

For 60 years the International Food Fair at Andrews University has brought food from all over the globe to Berrien Springs, Michigan. Andrews University, a Seventh-day Adventist institution, has students from over 90 countries. U.S. News & World Report ranked Andrews first in the nation for campus ethnic diversity in 2023, due largely to Adventist outreach in countries across the world.

<<< Read the full story at the Edible Michiana site >>>
Thu, 29 May 2025 10:09:26 +0000 Weathering the Storm http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/67315
Ben Martin, one of the associate pastors at Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, United States, was racing back and forth beneath the white canvas tent, trying to troubleshoot a cascade of technical issues. The projectors weren’t working. The slides wouldn’t load. Cameras were down. It was the sixth night of The Tent, an 11-day evangelistic series led by junior high schoolers from Ruth Murdoch Elementary School, and everything seemed to be falling apart.

<<< Read the full story at the Adventist Review site >>>
Thu, 29 May 2025 10:06:22 +0000 A "Just" Religion? http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/67287
I long ago lost track of how many times I’ve heard them. And each time I hear them, deep inside I cringe. To what wince-worthy assertions do I refer? The kind that make unfortunate use of the word “just”: “God longs to hear your prayers—just a few minutes a day will make Him smile!”; “God loves it when we spend time in His Word—just a verse or two a day will give us all the strength we need!”; “There’s a world to be reached for Christ—just a few minutes a week in service to others would turn the tide in God’s favor!” I feel nauseated just writing that.

To be clear, what keeps well-intended Christians repeating these “just” statements is that they contain a tiny measure of truth. In the case of a thawing atheist, for instance, God really is thrilled when they pray for just a few seconds. For the child who’s just beginning a meaningful relationship with Christ, He really is thrilled if they read just a few verses a day.

...

And what of us today? What if most of us today (unlike our pioneers) were to choose a “just” religion and minimize our commitment to God and His work?

<<< Read the full story by Pastor Shane Anderson at the Adventist Review site >>>
Thu, 22 May 2025 10:21:28 +0000 ASI Lake Union Spring Fellowship http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/67253
The 2025 Lake Union ASI Spring Fellowship brought together professionals, entrepreneurs, and ministry leaders under a unifying theme: “Sacred Entrepreneurship in Business and Ministry.” Held at the South Bend First Seventh-day Church from April 25-26 in South Bend, Indiana, the weekend event inspired members to rethink the boundaries between the spiritual and the secular, affirming that every vocation is a calling to serve God.

The fellowship included high-impact presentations, networking, and a strategic town hall meeting that invited participants to envision ASI’s future. Attendees helped shape plans to expand member engagement, strengthen collaboration across the Union, and fund five impactful outreach projects for 2025.

…

The weekend kicked off with Matthias Soto, PhD, director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Andrews University. Soto urged participants to embrace risk as a catalyst for Kingdom growth. “The only way to reach a greater population is to take some risks,” he said. “Whether in business or ministry—if we don’t step beyond what feels safe, we’ll miss opportunities to reach people we otherwise never could.”

<<< Read the full story at the Lake Union Herald site >>>
Thu, 08 May 2025 15:56:42 +0000 Andrews Conference Highlights Anabaptist Movement http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/67232
On January 21, 1525, in Zurich, Switzerland, a small group of Christians renounced infant baptism and were secretly rebaptized. His mother’s battle with cancer inspired him to explore the critical role of medical imaging technologies such as PET scans and isotopes in life-saving diagnoses and treatments. His future aspirations lie at the intersection of medicine and engineering, where he hopes to develop innovations in biomedical technology that improve and save lives. A great lesson has resonated with him from his freshman year biology professor, Dr. Denise Smith: never let the curiosity go!

…

Johncarlo is also active in competitive robotics, and community STEM outreach, embodying the values of leadership, resilience, and innovation. He attributes this honor to the incredible guidance and instruction of his mentors, counselors, coaches, and professors at Berrien Springs High School, Andrews University, and Southwestern Michigan College. His selection to PING reflects not only his academic excellence but his deep motivation to use science for the greater good.

<<< Read the full story on the Leader Publications site >>>
Thu, 01 May 2025 11:47:57 +0000
