LaBianca http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/68844
At the Religion Student Forum, Øystein S. LaBianca revisits the heritage of biblical archaeology at Andrews University, from the pioneering era of Siegfried H. Horn to today’s work at Tall Hisban in Jordan. While early generations sought to illuminate the biblical world through excavation, the field now faces new ethical and intellectual responsibilities. Drawing on a deep-time perspective, LaBianca argues that archaeology in the lands of the Bible must move toward partnership with local communities, fuller inclusion of Islamic and Ottoman pasts, and practices that build long-term trust. This shift—from expedition to collaboration, from extraction to stewardship—offers students a path to meaningful service and scholarship while sustaining the Adventist commitment to sharing the good news of the gospel.
Wed, 18 Feb 2026 16:53:28 +0000 Come Worship With Us in French! http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/68840
Sabbath School at 10:30 a.m.

Church service at 11:30 a.m. with Alain Coralie
Wed, 18 Feb 2026 16:45:10 +0000 Horn Lectureship Series http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/68838
“Searching for Mohammad's Mountain of the Ark; Exploring Nabonidus' Desert Hideaway and other Adventures in Saudi Arabia”

This illustrated presentation will report on our January trip across the deserts of central Saudi Arabia, starting at the ancient city of Hail (where Gertrude Bell was kept prisoner during her 1906 explorations) in the shadow of the Mount Aga (a mountain oasis in the middle of the desert supporting amazing plant and animal life and thought by some to be Muhammad’s Mountain of the Ark) to King Nabonidus’s desert city of Tayma (where he exiled himself from Babylon for 10 years) to the breathtaking Nabatean tombs of Hegra (that rival Petra) located on the famous incense road through Arabia.

Date: Monday, March 2, 2026
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Seminary Chapel

This event is free and open to the public, and cocurricular credit will be offered.

We look forward to seeing you there!
Wed, 18 Feb 2026 16:41:30 +0000
