Join us on this epic voyage through the delicate fabric of human emotions and the colossal forces at play in our solar system. Sat, Nov 08, 2025 07:30 pm -0500 South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras https://www.andrews.edu/agenda/68472 South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras (SBYSO) presents the first concert of its 2025–2026 season on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 4 p.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center at Andrews University. The concert will feature SBYSO’s Concert Orchestra, conducted by Zac Coudret; the second half will feature SBYSO’s Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Boardman. Featured performers include the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and SBYSO alumnus, Austin Huntington, who will perform the complete Dvorak Cello Concerto, as well as the Andrews University chorus led by Stephen Zork. We are honored to welcome Eva Katarina Glazer, who will present: "Beyond the Sea Peoples: Rethinking the 1200 BCE Collapse." Around 1200 BCE, the great powers of the ancient Near East—Hittites, Mycenaeans, Egyptians and Canaanite city-states—experienced what has long been called a “catastrophic collapse.” But was it truly the end of civilizations or the beginning of something new? Glazer will explore fascinating evidence of trade networks, migrations and cultural resilience, reconsidering whether the story of the Sea Peoples is myth, history or something in between. This theme emphasizes the idea that all service in the nation's armed forces is connected, regardless of when or where someone served. With that theme, Andrews University wants to recognize our student veterans and their fellow veterans who have made a sacrifice to serve our country. As we look back on their service, and on centuries of veterans’ service and sacrifice, we must always maintain a vision for the future. We hope that we can continue to honor all who served, while also focusing on the needs of the next generation of veterans.
