Emerson is a professor and chair of the sociology department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is also one of the foremost scholars on race and religion and co-authored the groundbreaking <em>Divided by Faith: Evangelical Religion and the Problem of Race in America</em> (2000). He will be presenting findings from his latest research, conducted alongside Glenn Bracey of Villanova University. That research will appear in his forthcoming book <em>The Grand Betrayal: The Agonizing Story of Race, Religion, and Rejection in American Life</em> (2023). This research represents the most comprehensive study of race and religion ever conducted in the U.S. and is funded by the Lilly Endowment.</p> <p> Following Chapel, there will be a <strong>catered</strong> <strong>Lunch &amp; Learn</strong> conversation with Dr. Emerson in the Dining Center&rsquo;s <strong>Lincoln Room</strong> from <strong>12:30 to 1:50 p.m.</strong> There is no cost for the lunch, but y<strong>ou must RSVP</strong> in advance.
