Chair's Welcome

Dear Prospective Aviation Student,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Andrews University Department of Aviation. We provide aviation training in two specific areas—Flight and Aircraft Maintenance. In flight we train everyone from Private Pilots, to Airline Transport Pilots as well as Flight Instructors. In maintenance we are approved to offer the Aircraft Maintenance Technician license with both the Airframe and Powerplant ratings. Both programs may be done alone, in combination, and as a part of a four-year academic program leading to a Bachelor of Technology.

We are located on our own well-equipped and maintained airport, with a 4,000-foot paved runway. Our aircraft are maintained by a full-time team of professional mechanics. Our flight training devices (simulators) occupy their own building, and the classrooms for both the flight and maintenance programs are located on the airport, approximately one mile from the main university campus.

Our faculty come from a variety of aviation backgrounds, including airline, military and general aviation. We are committed to excellence and meeting your needs. As a student, you are a valuable member of our program and we care about your professional as well as personal development. We will provide you with the best training and opportunities whether as a pilot or maintenance technician, to enter the commercial aviation field, as well as those of you who want to be involved in mission or humanitarian service.

My hope is that you will strongly consider joining us as you pursue your aviation degree and FAA certifications, whether in the cockpit or working on the aircraft.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at or by phone if I can be of any further assistance to you.
