Inspired by our high-flying adventures in the summer of 2017, the Explore Andrews Program is proud to announce the Early College Experience Flight Academy! An exciting new partnership with our friends in the Department of Aviation, this program will allow students to take a full private pilot ground school during the summer.
As part of the Early College Experience, students will have the opportunity to take AFLT 115: Private Pilot Ground School as their 3 credit hour college class. Each morning students will attend class at our state of the art aviation facility at the Andrews University Airport. Students will also need to spend a few afternoons each week at the airpark and will even get the opportunity to get some flying hours in. Students will still be able to participate in all weekend activities and can fit in one additional seminar.
Ground training prepares students for the FAA private pilot airplane knowledge test. Topics include aerodynamics, weight and balance, Federal Aviation Regulations, navigation, meteorology, aircraft systems and performance. This course is typically taken in the fall semester by new freshman and is a requirement before students start flying regularly. By taking this course in the summer, students will get a one semester head start on their aviation degree, or just fit in the requireed training to pass the private pilot knowledge test.
There are no additional fees for the Summer Flight Academy. That means all tuition, fees, housing, food and activities are offered at the same price as the regular Early College Experience. Students can even qualify for the Early Bird discount if they apply by April 1.
For the summer 2018 program, the total cost is $1395. Please note that students can not use the Be the Salt scholarship for the Summer Flight Academy due to the high cost of content delivery and the included flight hours.
To apply simply fill out the standard Early College Application and choose the Flight option for your class. Everything else is the same as the regular Early College Experience and we take care of all the other details. If you have any specific questions please contact us at Explore@andrews.edu and feel free to check out our Department of Aviation website right Here.
