Religion (interactive online and overseas)—MA

The Master of Arts (Religion) online and overseas is an program designed to prepare students in various disciplines of the Seminary such as church workers, secondary teachers, inquiring believers and individuals involved in ministry.

The MA Religion online program will be available starting Fall 2017

Program length

This 38–50 credit program can typically be completed in two years.

Application deadlines

Prospective students must submit their applications by the dates listed below.

  • Fall (August - December): July 30
  • Spring (January - May): November 15
  • Summer (May - August): June 1

Prospective students applying to the Overseas program must submit their applications by the dates set by the International Sites.

Academic requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree: A four-year degree from an accredited United States institution, or its equivalent from an institution outside the U.S.
  • Undergraduate GPA: Minimum 3.00. The entire student profile is considered during the admissions process; students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirements may also apply.

Admission requirements

Online students

  • Transcripts from educational institutions in the U.S.
    • Domestic and International prospective students who graduated from an educational institution in the U.S. must upload unofficial transcripts directly in the Graduate Application system during the application process. Official final transcripts will be required after admission decision.
  • Transcripts from educational institutions from outside of the U.S.
    • Domestic and International prospective students who graduated from an educational institution outside the U.S. must provide a WES ICAP course-by-course evaluation. The WES evaluation converts educational credentials from any country in the world into their U.S. equivalents. You can learn more about how to apply for a WES ICAP evaluation by watching the tutorial video created by WES.

      An unofficial copy of the WES ICAP may be uploaded in the Graduate Application system during the application process. Official WES ICAP will be required after admission decision.

      Prospective students holding academic degrees from universities accredited by Adventist Accredited Association (AAA) are not required to submit WES ICAP and may upload original language and literal English translation unofficial transcripts in the Graduate Application system during the application process. Official final transcripts will be required after admission decision.
  • Recommendations: Three recommendations are required from professionals—such as advisors, major professors, and employers—excluding relatives. You are asked to provide names and email addresses on the online application, and then recommenders will receive an email with a direct link to the form.
  • Resume or professional history: Information about your employment, research, or special projects.
  • Statement of Purpose: An essay explaining your objectives in seeking a graduate degree at Andrews University. Include a description of your personal, professional, and academic goals; your philosophical perspective; and what you hope to accomplish professionally in ten years following the completion of your degree.
  • English proficiency: English proficiency: Students whose language of instruction is not English must demonstrate English proficiency by meeting the minimum scores. To learn more please visit our entrance exams page.

Overseas students

  • Transcripts from educational institutions in the U.S.
    • Domestic and International prospective students who graduated from an educational institution in the U.S. must upload unofficial transcripts directly in the Graduate Application system during the application process. Official final transcripts will be required after admission decision.
  • Transcripts from educational institutions from outside of the U.S.
