AFTER-HOURS SERVICE FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

James White Library provides a special service for any doctoral student who wishes to use it. It provides access to the library for study or research at specified times when the building is closed to all other patrons. We call it our "Second Mile Service."

The Second Mile Service hours are as follows:

Sundays 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, or when the library opens to regular patrons.
Second Mile Service may end before 6:00pm if thee are no patrons present. In this case, the worker on duty will post a sign on the front door.
Fridays 3:00 pm (or when the library closes) to 4:00 pm, Mid October-March, or 3:00 pm (or when the library closes) to 6:00 pm., April-Mid October.

The library doors will remain locked during the above times, but one library employee will be on duty at the Circulation Desk for the following purposes:

If you wish to use the library at these special hours, please follow these guidelines:

1. You must obtain a permit, which consists of an pre-determined sticker on your regular ID card. This must be carried whenever you are in the building during the Second Mile Service hours, and shown to library staff or campus safety officers on request. Come to the library dean's office to see the Office Manager during regular office hours for this permit. No permits will be issued when the library is closed.

2. A sign-in, sign-out sheet will be maintained at the Circulation Desk. Please sign-in by library closing time and sign-out as you leave the building. This will inform the library worker that you are here in case of messages or emergencies.

3. Permission to be in the building during Second Mile hours is strictly limited to permit holders. It does not extend to family members, friends, or visitors.

4. The purpose of the program is to provide a quiet haven for doctoral students who wish to pursue their research or study after normal hours. Conversation should be restricted to the lobby area.

JWL will be closed to ALL patrons on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.
