The Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology is pleased to announce that the 50% tuition reduction for applicants accepted into the EdS in School Psychology program will be offered again for the 2006-2007 academic year. Once received, this tuition reduction will cover the span of the EdS program, or three years. Once accepted, the requirements to continue the 50% reduction are the following: full-time enrollment (9-12 credits per semester) in the program, a 3.2 GPA, and maintenance of student status in good and regular standing.

Training in School Psychology offers an amazing opportunity for a student with a bachelor's or master's degree in psychology, education or a related area to advance in this growing field. According to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), "Demand for school psychologists is exceptionally strong and on the rise. As life has become more stressful, schools and communities have come under increasing pressure to provide mental health and instructional support for children and youth."

School psychologists perform consultations involving families and school personnel regarding the total learning environment of students. They assess students' academic skills and aptitudes, social/emotional development, mental health, and eligibility for special services. School psychologists conduct research and evaluate students in order to develop effective programs and strategies. They promote human diversity. School psychologists work within a school system to help students have the opportunity to learn and achieve their fullest potential. Dr. Rudi Bailey, department chair, adds, "There is a school psychologist shortage in many states. We are offering beginning students this 50% tuition reduction as an incentive to fill those available positions. The majority of the department's school psychology students are employed after graduation."  Due to a limited number of spaces, please apply as soon as possible.
