Date: December 15, 2008
Thank you to the faculty and staff for your patience during the server problem that developed Monday, December 8, 2008. And thank you for the patience of those who have been attempting to make contact via e-mail. E-mail services are now available for the 300 accounts that have been unavailable since last Monday. E-mail messages previously been sent to those individuals should now be delivered.
Please note that faculty and staff affected by the disruption of service may be presented with two options when starting Outlook: “Use Temporary Mailbox” or “Use Old Data.” Select “Use Temporary Mailbox” to begin accessing your restored email. If this message reoccurs when you restart Outlook, contact the IT Helpdesk at 471-6016 or http://helpdesk.andrews.edu.
For the 300 e-mail accounts involved in the outage, e-mail messages received and calendar entry changes made between 2-11 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 were not restored. If you have critical messages in this time period, contact the Helpdesk. They may still be retrievable at a later date.
If individuals directly affected by the outage still cannot access e-mail, ensure your e-mail client is functioning in the “Connected” mode rather than “Offline.” Additional information is available at \\file2\Public\index.html <file:///\\file2\Public\index.html>
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through these issues. Our ITS team will be intently focused on identifying and implementing options to prevent similar incidents in the future.
