Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Off-Campus Access Using VPN

  • VPN access is available to all eligible faculty, staff and related departments of Andrews University.
    An active Andrews username and password is required.
  • VPN is not available to students
  • By design, VPN does not work while connected to the Andrews University network.  This includes wired and wireless connections.

Select your operating system below:

  1. Right-click on the Network icon in the notification tray (bottom-right, by the clock)
  2. Select Open Network & Internet settings
  3. Select Add a VPN connection
  4. Enter the following:
    • VPN Provider:  Windows (built-in)
    • Connection Name:  AU VPN   (or a name of your choice)
    • Server name or address: fsvpn.andrews.edu
    • VPN Type: Automatic
    • Type of sign-in info: Username and password
    • Username: Andrews username (without '@andrews.edu')
    • Password: Andrews password
  5. Select Save
  6. Back at the VPN settings window, select Change adapter options
  7. Right-click on the VPN connection you just created, then select Properties
  8. Select the Security tab
  9. Select Allow these protocols
  10. Select Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2).  All other check boxes should remain unchecked.
  11. Select OK
  12. Connect to the VPN by selecting the Network icon in the notification tray then select the VPN connection you just created.
    Enter your Andrews username (without @andrews.edu) and password, when prompted.
  1. At the Desktop, right-click on the Network icon in the notification tray (bottom-right, by the clock)
  2. Select Open Network and Sharing Center
  3. Select Set up a new connection or network
  4. Select Connect to a workplace, then select Next
  5. Select Use my Internet connection (VPN)
  6. Enter the following:
    • Internet Address:  fsvpn.andrews.edu
    • Destination name:  AU VPN   (or a name of your choice)
  7. Select Create
  8. Back at the Network and Sharing Center, select Change adapter settings
  9. Right-click on the VPN connection you just created, then select Properties
  10. Select the Security tab
  11. Select Allow these protocols
  12. Select Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2).  All other check boxes should remain unchecked.
  13. Select OK
  14. Connect to the VPN by selecting the Network icon in the notification tray then select the VPN connection you just created.
    Enter your Andrews username (without @andrews.edu) and password, when prompted.

  2. Select Open Network and Sharing Center
  3. Select Set Up a Connection or Network
  4. Select Connect to a workplace, then select Next
  5. Select Use my Internet connection (VPN)
    • Enter the following:
      • Internet Address:  fsvpn.andrews.edu
      • Destination name:  AU VPN   (or a name of your choice)
  6. Select Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later
  7. Select Next
    • Enter the following:
      • Username:  Your Andrews username (without @andrews.edu)
      • Password:  Your Andrews password
  8. Select Create
  9. Select Close
  10. Back at the Network and Sharing Center, select Change adapter settings
  11. Right-click on the VPN connection you just created, then select Properties
  12. Select the Security tab
  13. Select Allow these protocols
  14. Select Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2).  All other check boxes should remain unchecked.
  15. Select OK
  16. Connect to the VPN by selecting the Network icon in the notification tray then select the VPN connection you just created.
    Enter your Andrews username (without @andrews.edu) and password, when prompted.
If your operating system is macOS Sierra (10.12), High Sierra (10.13) or Mojave (10.14):
Please contact your ITS building technician or submit a work order.

If your operating system is Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11) or older:
  1. Go to System Preferences  >  Network
  2. Select + to create a new service
  3. Change Interface to VPN
  4. Change VPN Type to PPTP
  5. Service Name: Andrews VPN
  6. Select Create
  7. Enter the following:
    • Configuration: Default
    • Server Address: fsvpn.andrews.edu
    • Account Name: Enter your Andrews username. (without "@andrews.edu")
  8. Check Show VPN status in menu bar
  9. Select Apply
  10. Connect to the VPN by selecting the VPN icon in the menu bar

How do I find out what version of Mac OS X/macOS I'm running?
  1. In the Apple menu bar, go to:      >  About This Mac
  2. The Mac operating system and version will be displayed
