Horn Research Award for Professional Programs - Dr. Winston Craig, PhD, RD


Our Department of Public Health and Wellness is proud to announce that our Chair, Dr. Winston Craig has received the Horn Research Award for Professional Programs. Dr. Winston Craig has also completed 25th years of service to Andrews University and we would like to recognize his remarkable service in administration and teaching.

Winston received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition from Loma Linda University, California. He is a registered dietitian and holds membership in the American College of Nutrition, the American Society of Nutrition Sciences, the American Dietetic Association and Sigma Xi.

He started his academic career at Andrews University in 1987. He is currently a professor of nutrition, director of the dietetics internship program, and chair of the Department of Public Health & Wellness. Under his leadership, the department has grown considerably.

Winston has authored 20 articles for scholarly journals and more than 225 nutrition articles for health publications. He is a regular contributor to Vibrant Life Magazine  and the Lake Union Herald and has written seven chapters for various nutrition books. In 2009, he co-authored the ADA position paper on vegetarian diets. He is a regular speaker at national and international nutrition conferences. His research interests include the health-promoting properties of phytochemicals, the role of plant-based diet in preventing chronic diseases, and the disease-preventing properties of herbs and spices.

Winston has served Andrews University extremely well. It is pleasure to honor him with this prestigious award for research. Congratulations, Dr. Craig!
